This was the second Elk River that Howard Heltman built. This one was built in his home in Pennsylvania after his move from Virginia. It was a full basement layout approximately 25' by 25' designed to operate as much as possible like the real Western Maryland and required 10-14 operators. Incorporated in the design was the WM/B&O interchange at Cherry Run and the large yard and engine facility at Hagerstown, Md.
