The Elk River Subdivision of the Western Maryland was built and operated by Howard Heltman of Richmond, Virginia. It was a point-to-point with one section doubled decked and occupied a 15 x 15 foot room. An article appeared in the August 2003 issue of Model Railroader on his swing up entry bridge. This railroad was dismantled in June 2005 when Howard moved to Pittsburg. The Elk River Sub was part of the Allegheny Alliance and connected with the C&O – Williams River Sub at Slaty Fork.
